Your first visit to a salon
Your first visit to a salon
What to expect
Whether you visit a large luxury day spa or a small local salon for a treatment, as a client you should always expect a high standard of professional behaviour.
Courtesy: You should be greeted with courtesy and welcomed to the salon, the staff members greeting you should introduce themselves and offer assistance. The environment should be clean, safe and well maintained and the atmosphere should be one of calm efficiency. Nobody likes waiting and a prompt service is always to be expected. However, if a delay is unavoidable it can be made more bearable with a few courtesies. You should be informed of how long you may have to wait and be offered a seat and refreshment.
All staff should be immaculately groomed and you should expect a professional manner with an attentive and pleasant attitude. In larger salons they will have a receptionist who will inform you generally about the services and products the salon may offer and related prices.
A consultation is an opportunity for the therapist to discuss suitable treatment choices that meet your needs and to ensure that any treatment or product is suitable and safe for you to have. A consultation should be conducted in a screened area that allows a high degree of privacy. Very few of us want our personal details announced to the whole of the salon.
During a consultation the therapist should be able to clearly outline your treatment needs, the related costs and the time commitment required. During a consultation the therapist will ask detailed questions about your general health, skin care and life style. Depending on the treatment, a skin analysis or body analysis may be undertaken. Some treatments like eyelash tinting require skin patch testing to ensure a non allergic response.
If the therapist has listened to you, you should be able to agree a treatment plan related purely to your needs. You should be fully informed.
